A Good Example of Irony

In light of the presidential election, which is happening a mere eight days from now, my school is holding a mock debate, followed by a mock election. There will be two students that will represent each candidate, two vice presidents, and each candidate will have three advisers to help them.

And I am representing John McCain. And considering that I am (mostly) and Obama fan, there's irony right there for you. And one of my closest friends is Obama. This is going to be fun. I asked the teacher coordinating this project that since I am Senator McCain, do I have to sound like a blabbering idiot like he does, or can I sound intelligent? Her answer was that Mr. McCain is an intelligent man, he just has trouble expressing himself. Passable answer, but the public doesn't really care. If McCain sounds like an idiot, then that's what people think he is. Should I wear my Obama kippah that day, and take it off for the debate--just to spice things up?

And, during all this, I wonder who's smarter: Sarah Palin or a first grader?

You write:
And one of my closest friends is Obama.
Does this mean you're personally connected to the junior senator from Illinois? :-)

Also:
Her answer was that Mr. McCain is an intelligent man, he just has trouble expressing himself.
I think you're both wrong. McCain is intelligent--say what you will, but you need to be bit above-average in intelligence to be a fighter pilot (even if he did graduate near the bottom of his class). McCain's problem is that more that he hasn't found a consistent message to send. Plus, as the election approaches, he grows more and more desperate.

Finally,
I wonder who's smarter: Sarah Palin or a first grader?
If the first grader in question is the one related to you, then obviously the answer is the latter.

No, but the person representing Obama is a close friend of mine.

Ok, I'll give him that he can fly a jet. That doesn't mean he will be an awesome president--but then again, neither will Obama.

Thank you for the compliment
