A Good Example of Irony

In light of the presidential election, which is happening a mere eight days from now, my school is holding a mock debate, followed by a mock election. There will be two students that will represent each candidate, two vice presidents, and each candidate will have three advisers to help them.

And I am representing John McCain. And considering that I am (mostly) and Obama fan, there's irony right there for you. And one of my closest friends is Obama. This is going to be fun. I asked the teacher coordinating this project that since I am Senator McCain, do I have to sound like a blabbering idiot like he does, or can I sound intelligent? Her answer was that Mr. McCain is an intelligent man, he just has trouble expressing himself. Passable answer, but the public doesn't really care. If McCain sounds like an idiot, then that's what people think he is. Should I wear my Obama kippah that day, and take it off for the debate--just to spice things up?

And, during all this, I wonder who's smarter: Sarah Palin or a first grader?

My Little Experiment

My father's friend gave him an "Obama '08" kippah, and, just for kicks, I decided to wear it to school, to see how kids and teachers would react. I just added a new label to this entry, "humor". It fits perfectly.

My friends were revolted by my experiment, all except for one, who gave me a pat on the back and called me a good boy. One swore bloody murder and called me a traitor to all Jews and Republicans, one threatened to burn it until the thinnest ashes were left, and one threatened to smack "all living hell" out of me. I got a real kick out of doing this. That, and the fact that the Giants are 4 wins and a tie.

The teachers gave a completely different reaction: they also got a kick out of it. One of them, who is actually an Obama supporter, told me that I was right to support Obama. (I don't support any candidate, as you know from my last entry, I just wanted to have a little bit of fun.)

All in all, I really enjoyed leading a riot in my school. It was lots of fun.
